31/08/2020 – In-service day

Re-scheduled in-service day.

I am writing to let you know that the 2nd in-service day for schools across South Lanarkshire has been agreed as follows:

  • Tuesday, 29 September 2020

You may recall that the original schedule was to begin the new term with two in-service days, but this had to be changed to one day given the Scottish Government announcement that pupils would begin to return to school from Wednesday 12 August 2020.

The other 3 in-service days remain unchanged giving us 5 in total:

  • Monday, 16 November 2020
  • Wednesday, 10 February 2021
  • Thursday, 6 May 2021

The setting of holiday dates for schools in Scotland requires pupils to attend school for 190 days each year with teachers required to work 195 days, which includes 5 in-service days.

I hope that by sharing this information it will give you some time to plan for these dates when children are not at school.

01/04/2020 – Community Support – Foodbank Donations

During these difficult times of social isolation, where many families cannot go out to work, there is increased demand for foodbank services. There may be a great number of families throughout our school community that require the use of foodbank services to make ends meet. However our foodbanks are struggling under these increasing pressures.

If you are in position to support your local food bank, there are several ways you can do this:

  • You could make a donation of food to various drop off points around the Blantyre area
    • Asda Blantyre
    • Family Shopper in High Blantyre
    • Gilbrides Pharmacy
    • Blantyre Old Parish Church (Church gate)

If you are making a food donation, please ensure that you follow all government advice regarding social distancing. It may be an idea to donate food as you are making your way to work, or if carrying out your own shopping.

  • You can also make financial donations to the foodbank through the Hamilton district food bank.

If you require the use of the foodbank:

  • All you need to do is phone them with details and where possible, they will arrange food parcels to be delivered (assuming they have availability). You can’t collect at the moment.

  • The Blantyre base is at the Nazarene Hall, next to St Andrew’s Church on Glasgow Road. You can call them on 07493924477. They are open Tuesday and Thursday 11-2pm
  • The Hamilton base is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 12-2pm – Tel: 0788445512

I hope as a community we can pull together and ensure that essential supplies are given to families who need it. Thanks in advance.
