Open Days

As part of your child’s S6 curriculum the school will sanction permitted attendance at a maximum of 2 open days.  In order to apply the appropriate attendance code for your child we should be alerted in advance to which open days your child will attend.

It should be noted that lectures/activities for specific courses are often planned for different times throughout the day and students can select the most appropriate lecture/activity for their chosen course. Please note that it is now quite common that those who wish to attend an open day register their interest in advance with the appropriate institution.  Pupils are expected to do this to ensure they can indeed attend and maximise the options available on a given day.  They should seek this information directly with the institution as appropriate.

For your information detailed below are details of the more commonly attended open days (of pupils at Calderside).  Please note this list is not exhaustive and should an institution be omitted that is of interest to your child you should seek details of this independently.  During our S6 induction in August pupils are issued with this list on their return, along with a parental letter to confirm which days they intend to attend.  Please be aware that it is quite common that Higher Education institutions now hold these days on a Saturday and where possible we would encourage that your child attend on this day.  As well as your child not missing school to attend an open day, this often allows parents to attend as well. Discussions with university colleagues are invaluable and quite insightful, particularly regarding current entrance requirements.

Parents are requested to complete the tear-off slip via the parental letter issued to your child and make sure your daughter/son returns this to Mrs Osprey by Friday 24 August.  Failure to return this slip will mean your daughter/son will not be credited with their attendance for that day.
